About Us

Student Cribs was founded in 2002 when Charlie Vaughan-Lee was a student at Bristol University. Charlie wanted to live in a nice house with his friends but all the properties agents had available for students were, at best, average. So, with support from a few daring investors and trusting friends, the first Student Cribs were born.

Since then Charlie Philip (AKA Charlie Girl) and the Student Cribs team have, with backing from a few more investors, created over 50 Student Cribs. The company is based in West London and the portfolio under management comprises properties in 8 town and cities across the UK.

If you want to, you can find out a little about each one of us below. We like to employ people straight out of Uni (Tom Ferber was one of our first tenants in Leeds) so as the older members of the team regretfully “mature” the younger ones make sure we understand how our tenants' needs evolve.

  • Jamie Morris: Portfolio Manager

Jamie started in May 2010 as the Portfolio Manager, having studied at Bristol University of West of England. In his role, he ensures the smooth day to day running of the properties and does his best to keep all the tenants happy. He is also actively involved in the marketing of Student Cribs during the letting season. When not looking after student properties, Jamie can usually be found at Stamford Bridge cheering on his beloved Blues.

  • Mathanki Thirukaran: Finance Assistant

Mathanki joined as the Finance Assistant in October 2011, having gained practical experience working for a merchandising company and a group of care homes in London. She is responsible for the smooth day to day running of the finance activities. She graduated in 2010 with a degree in Accounting and Finance and is currently studying towards completing her ACCA qualification. As the newest member of the finance team we are hoping Mathanki will join Rom in his annual rendition of 'Ice Ice Baby' at the Christmas Party.

  • Henry Heaton: Asset Manager

Henry joined in May 2010, having gained extensive property experience working with Knight Frank LLP and London Central Portfolio Ltd. His student days were spent at Exeter University and later at London South Bank University. Henry’s role is to research the UK student market and acquire properties with the potential to be a Student Crib. He is also actively involved in the marketing of Student Cribs during the letting season. As the eldest in the office he likes to think he’s brought some maturity to the team.

  • Tom Ferber: Asset Manager

Tom was a tenant of the first Student Crib in Leeds back in 2006. He joined the company in 2008, immediately after finishing at Leeds University. Initially he managed the portfolio. Since the launch of the first Fund, Tom’s focus has shifted to acquisitions and development, working in partnership with Henry. Tom is famous for his prized bicycle, which we suspect is worth more than his company car.

  • Romesh Jeyaseelanayagam: Finance Director

Romesh qualified as a Chartered Accountant at Ernst & Young in 2000. He then spent a number of years at Bunzl plc, where he worked in various financial roles including UK & Ireland Finance Controller. In 2008 he started as Finance Director of London Bio Packaging, a role which he continues on a part time basis. He came on board with Student Cribs in May 2010 and after 5 months had successfully taught everyone how to spell his surname.

  • Charlie Philip: Managing Director

Charlie joined Student Cribs as Managing Director in 2005, having studied at Exeter University. Charlie is responsible for the development of Student Cribs from 3 houses to the established portfolio it is today. She was instrumental in raising the first Student Crib Fund and in building the team. Charlie has made it clear what foods she does not like consumed in the office and whistling and foot tapping is a sure way to attract her attention.

  • Charlie Vaughan-Lee: Director

Charlie founded Student Cribs in 2003 whilst studying at Bristol. Charlie has worked alongside Charlie Philip in developing the business over the past 5 years, including the successful launch of the first Student Crib Fund. His other business interest is in London Bio Packaging, where he’s been a Director for 4 years. Charlie is well known in the quiet streets surrounding the office for his very loud motorbike..
