    33 Fishergate Renovation

    The property that people ask us about most often is 33 Fishergate, York. Formerly known as Ivy Cottage, it is a large Grade II listed house in a prominent position on a busy road to the south of York City Centre. When Student Cribs first viewed the house in late 2010 it had been repossessed after falling into such a bad state of disrepair that it was unfit for habitation. It was sitting empty with no interested buyers and was completely engulfed in Ivy:

    It was clear to us from the outset that this house had huge potential. Situated in a prime location within walking distance of both the University and the City Centre, the house already had 10 double bedrooms, 6 of which were en suite (it had previously been used as a guest house).  We purchased the property in December 2010. It needed a lot of work before it could truly be called a Student Crib...

     

    In February we appointed a Yorkshire based contractor to do the building works for us and embarked upon our biggest refurbishment project yet. The Grade II Listing meant that the exterior of the building could not be changed beyond its traditional appearance. This also included the roof (which was leaking!) and all the internal walls. Replacing the roof was the biggest part of the job:

    We treated the building for rising damp, dry rot, wet rot, structural movement, and removed all of the ivy. We also re plumbed and re wired the whole house, re-laid all of the drains, repaired the windows, fitted new bathrooms and a new kitchen.

     

     

    We furnished and decorated the house in a retro style which compliments the quirky appearance of the building and enabled us to use lots of colour to brighten it up. The finished property has 10 double bedrooms, 6 en-suite shower rooms and another shared bathroom, a well-appointed kitchen and a very large sitting room with a dining area. There is also an enclosed courtyard garden.

    33 Fishergate is let to ten tenants for 2011/2012 and has been relet to another lucky group of 10 for 2012/2013.     Bristol and Manchester - Rooms Available for 2012/2013

    Due to changes in tenant circumstances we have a room available in two of our properites:

     

    Waverley Road, Bristol - One room available in this spacious, newly renovated Redland house. Sharing with a group of five second year male Bristol University students. The room is a double room on the ground floor overlooking the garden. £125 per week including broadband.

     

    Flat 4, Ladybarn Road, Manchester - One room available in this fantastic top floor seven bedroom apartment. Sharing with a group of four female and two male Manchester Metropolitan University students. £105 per week including gas, electricity, water, TV licence and broadband.

     

    Both rooms become available from 1st July 2012 and are let on 12 month tenancies

    Christmas 2011

    The Student Cribs head office is closing for Christmas from 22.12.11 until 3.01.12.

    We are unable to conduct viewings between 22.12.11 and 3.01.12, so if you would like to view one of our remaining properties please email us and we will be in touch to organise when we return.

    Open Days - Thanks

    Our house open days are now over. It was great to meet so many of you and show you our houses. Thanks to everyone who helped us make the open days work so well and congratulations to all of those who secured a Crib for next year – we look forward to having you as our tenants in 2012/2013.

     

    Most of our houses are now let but we still have a few left! We are also planning to buy a lot more in 2012, so if you are still looking then please get in touch...

    Welcome to our Crib...

    The boys at Johnson Road, Nottingham (Hot Tub Club) have shot and produced the first ever Crib video. We think its awesome and we hope you like it too! They are staying at their house next year so it is not available, but we have plenty more houses in Nottingham so make sure you check them out on the Nottingham area of the site. 

     

    Current tenants - if you want to make a video of you enjoying your Crib please go for it and send it in. Hot tub action is impressive but not essential...

    Welcome to our new website

    After months of organising, designing, writing and editing we finally have our new website up and running. We hope our site now offers an easy and fun way to explore our houses. We’ve made sure we’ve provided features that you’d expect from any professional letting agency and then we’ve added some more. Our favourite new feature is the floor plans. With the help of these and all of our new photos you can now get to know all of our houses without even needing to leave your computer!     Broadband Now Included

    From 2012 onwards Student Cribs will be including hi speed broadband as standard in all of our properties. The cost will be included in our monthly rents. This means that you will never have to book and wait for an installation, or split the monthly cost between your house mates. We will continue to offer the 'inclusive utility bills' package as an option for tenants who would like to include the cost of gas, electricity, water and TV licence in their rent.
