Student Cribs started out by assisting parent buyers and investors with the search, acquisition, renovation and management of student properties in popular university towns. In 2010 Student Cribs raised its first investment fund to buy and develop the best student properties across the UK. “The best” has two meanings here:

• The best properties for tenants
• The best returns for investors from a low-risk asset class.

Over the last 10 years, there has been significant investment in student property by corporations building large student blocks, primarily targeted at first year students. These are often university partnered halls of residence, or a variation on this theme. We believe this is a very good and sensible model for first year students. However, in our experience, after students have lived in large blocks and formed social circles, they want to live in a house with their friends. 

Even with the relatively recent introduction of greater regulation, landlords range from rogues, to chance investors, to professional operators. We are building a brand representing high quality, responsibly built and well managed houses. If you want a good net annual yield (7%+), with proven capital growth, in a large market with a clear need for improvement, then we should talk. Additionally, if you are a landlord with an HMO licensed property in a good university town, and want to cash in, then please let us know.

We won’t compromise on location. Other than that, we are interested in anything from vacant and/or dilapidated properties to well performing tenanted HMOs. We have clear and simple investment criteria enabling us to make solid offers that result in quick completions. We’re always interested to hear from landlords, vendors, sales agents and investors. 

In 2011 Student Cribs will be looking to raise a second larger fund, with the aim of becoming the largest provider of high quality student houses across the UK and a nationally recognised student property landlord.
