10 Things Every Loughborough Fresher Must Do

10 Things Every Loughborough Fresher Must Do

For those of you that started their year in Loughborough university (a.k.a. one of the UK’s top 7 universities) and wonder what to explore in the city, you’ll be interested in this list of things to do in Loughborough.

1.    Shop at Loughborough market

You’ll see a great range of stalls offering local produce, clothing and home essentials. It’s a great place to find bargain buys and luxury gifts. The market is open on Thursdays and Saturdays, between 7am and 5pm.

2.      Treat yourself at Chocolate alchemy

If you fancy something sweet and decadent, pay a visit to Chocolate Alchemy – this little shop/café offers amazing cakes, handmade chocolates and of course, rich hot chocolate. All the treats are made onsite in the upstairs kitchen.

3.      Walk in Queen’s Park

Located in the centre of Loughborough, this beautiful park is perfect for walks and picnics with friends. You can visit museums inside of the area or take a look at the statues, created by former students of Loughborough University

4.     Have a pint in Organ Grinder

It’s a lively pub with good vibes and friendly staff. It offers a variety of beers, ales and cider and is popular across all the ages. Meet up with friends and warm up by the log during cold winter evenings.

5.     Have pizza at Peter and that’s enough

After entering this pizzeria you might be put off by weird décor and edgy interior, but ignore these because Peter has the best pizza in Loughborough! This quirky and cool restaurant is famous for its authentic thin pizza, ambience and…low prices. Try out the specials, they always win.

6.     Dance at Echoes Nightclub

The best way to spend a Saturday night (if you’re a party animal type of student, of course) is to head over to Echoes. One of the biggest night venues in Loughborough is popular  among the students because of its £2 entry tickets, music variety and cheap booze.

7.     Dine in Orange Tree

Always crowded with students, Orange Tree is a great local pub with relaxing atmosphere. The menu is quite unconventional, and you can order meals like gluten-free fish and chips or vegan burgers. The food and drinks are very reasonably priced, so definitely check out this place for affordable eating out.

8.     Relax in Toby Carvery

Here you can enjoy the large plates of comfort food, great for sharing with a friend. Try out dishes with beef (it’s so tender) and this dessert with Yorkshire pudding and ice-cream.

9.     Move around at The Climbing Station

If you’re down to active ways to spend time, come here for a top notch bouldering. Located 3 minutes away from centre, the climbing station has large surfaces and routes that are regularly changed. Which is why you won’t be bored after several visits.

10.   Enjoy the views from the Beacon Hill

Climb to the highest point in Loughborough to see incredible views over the town and Leicestershire area. It’s a lovely place to visit during dry days.
