10 Things Every Plymouth Student Must Do

10 Things Every Plymouth Student Must Do

There’s so much to do in Plymouth and before you know it, your three years will have flown by, so make sure you make the most of everything this incredible city has to offer.

To help you out, we’ve compiled a list of our 10 favourite things that we believe every Plymouth student must do.

1) Make your own bottle of gin

Treat yourself by visiting the oldest working gin distillery in England! (and you can probably pass it off as an education trip!). The tours prices vary from £7 to £40 no matter which tour you choose, everybody gets to leave the distillery with their own miniature gin bottle.

2) Visit the National Marine Aquarium

Although living in Plymouth means you’ll have the Plymouth quay right at your finger tips, the National Marine Aquarium is definitely not one to miss! It’s the largest in the UK and definitely won’t break the bank (tickets are around £10).

3) Chill in Hoe Park

There is definitely nothing better than relaxing in the park on a sunny day and Hoe Park is the perfect location for that. If you get bored you can visit the red and white Smeaton’s towerand climb its 93 steps, giving you some incredible views of Plymouth.

4) Visit Smeaton’s Tower

This well loved and hugely recognisable landmark is practically famous! So what Plymouth student would you be, if you finished your time at uni without having seen it. Take some time out from your studies and go have an explore of this centrepiece at Plymouth’s Hoe.

5) Pound in at PRZYM

We all know it’s the inevitable, on Wednesday nights, you WILL end up at PRZYM and when it’s their ‘pound in’ sessions on a wednesday, why wouldn’t you?! There’s no better way to celebrate hump day than out on a sports night having the time of your life with all the sports societies!

6) Kayak

If you’re an outdoorsy person, then this one’s for you. Rent a kayak and have an adventure on Plymouth’s clear waters. Go solo to feel at one with nature and shake off a stressful week studying or rent two kayaks and row with a mate. It’s also a very fun way to exercise (and a great way to shake off that Dominos you had last night!)

7) Stroll along the Bay
Plymouth has some of the most beautiful Bays in England, so why not enjoy them? The piers are filled with lovely restaurants, cafes and ice cream trucks (but keep in mind that the seagulls are very, very hungry….)

8) Escape to the Burrator Reservoir
It will take you no longer than an hour by train to get there, but believe me, it is definitely worth the journey. This is the perfect place to chill out after a busy week at Uni and what’s more, if you’re into fishing (bit of a long shot) you can book daily fishing permits!

9) Eat the best fish and chips
Kingfisher Fish & Chips has just been awarded as UK’s best fish & chips shop. All the ingredients, from cod to lobsters, are extremely fresh, coming from the Plymouth fish market. It is 100% within the student budget and let’s be honest, it would be such a shame to stay in Plymouth and not try the best of UK’s most famous dish.

10) Visit Cuba!
The Cuba! is definitely where most of your nights out are going to end… so you better get to know it well. The main events are the 2 for 1 drinks on Tuesdays and the £1 pints night on Fridays.

We hope you’ve enjoyed going through our list of the best activities in Plymouth, definitely make sure you try them all and if you think something is missing then let us know in the comments below!
