It only takes a few seconds, and those small savings can add up significantly across the semester.

Whilst most UK supermarkets don’t offer a dedicated student discount, there are still ways to save money on your weekly shop. One of the most effective ways is the reduced section, where items close to their best before date are marked down at the end of the day. This can often include fresh food, bakery items and ready meals. For students who are flexible with meals and are willing to visit their local supermarket 3 times a week, this is a simple way to cut weekly food costs. You can find the reduced section from around 6pm onwards at the likes of Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Lidl and more.
Travel & Transport

Getting around as a student can quickly become expensive especially if you are travelling in between home, campus and the city centre.
One of the most popular ways of savings for students is the 16-25 Railcard which gives you 33% off all National Rail fares. All you need to do is purchase a 16-25 ticket and present your railcard when inspected which can be purchased on the trainline website or app.
If you are a student in London, you are also eligible for 33% off-peak travel, just speak to a member of staff at any TFL station and they will assist you in connecting your railcard to your Oyster.
For everyday travel, it is always worth checking if your university city offers student bus passes or travel cards. Walking or cycling are also great options if you live close to campus.
