Why Smithdown Road is the Only Place to Live in Liverpool
By Student Cribs | February 13, 2019
When deciding where to live once you’ve moved out of your first-year halls in Liverpool, it is quite a simple choice. Almost as simple as deciding whether to get one Dominos or two for the same price. Smithdown Road is the heart of the Liverpool student area and there is always something to do, see or eat! If you’re not convinced, we’ve compiled all the reasons why you don’t want to be living anywhere else.
1. Food
Living in Smithdown, you will never go hungry again and will be constantly struggling to decide where you want to eat. Whether you fancy sampling the best kebab in Liverpool at Friends or just grabbing a cheeky takeaway on the way home from a night out, Smithdown has a mind boggling selection of eateries, none of which will break the bank. Evil Eye Burrito is a fan favourite, Little Furnace will satisfy all your pizza desires and The Tavern co serves up the best breakfast to cure any hangover that a night at Brooklyn Mixer might throw at you.
2. Music
The home of the Beatles and many other musical legends, Smithdown attracts some of the best live music acts on the scene. The places to catch the best ones are Kelly’s, The Brookhouse and the Willowbank. Whether you’re looking for a dancing night out with the girls or some laid back acoustic vibes, you’ll be able to find quality live music acts every night of the week.
3. Asda and Aldi
The creme de la creme for a bulk buyer. Where else can you spend £1 on a pizza and it not taste like total garbage. Both are walking distance from the main student area (where everyone does their shopping) so if you’re not a fan of running into people hungover, maybe stay inside until the vodka leaves your system.
4. Everybody lives there!
Why would you want to live 30 minutes away from all of your mates? The student community is bustling and will make you feel more at home in this big city. Although Liverpool is a relatively safe city, you will automatically feel safer surrounded by students and it’s (sometimes) nice running into people when you’re out and about. Maybe not so much after a night at Heebie Jeebies.
5. Opportunities to work
I don’t mean to sound like your mother but have you thought about getting a job? Being a student is expensive wherever you are and having some extra dollar will make you feel slightly more at ease after taking your debit card out for a night on the town. Thankfully, there are so many places you can work in the Smithdown area. With so many bars, pubs, cafes and shops, someone is always looking for an extra hand to help. Lookout for signs in windows or just go in and ask if they’re hiring.
6. Transport
You will always be able to get home due to the fantastic bus schedule that goes all the way through Smithdown all night long! You can catch a bus straight to uni or to town (get the 86 or the 699). Having the option to get the bus will make those cold winter mornings slightly more bearable and staggering back home after a boozy night much more manageable. However… if you do have to take a taxi it’ll only be a 10-minute drive.
7. Pints
Whether you fancy casual pints or a classy cocktail, Smithdown Road hosts a true spectrum of places to consume beverages. The Brookhouse is a quirky pub that students favour, Craft Taproom has a huge selection of craft beers and Pennylane Wine Bar is the perfect place to toss back a large glass of Pinot grigio after a long day of seminars. Basically, you have no excuse to not get merry with your pals.
If this list hasn’t sold you, all it takes is a visit to Smithdown and you will be running to a letting agency. If you have any questions about properties, one of the team will be happy to answer any queries you may have!
